Smart Production and Consumption are Trending: Stella McCartney Unveils Mirum Leather Bags

At the Winter '23 fashion show, British fashion brand Stella McCartney presented Falabella and Frayme bags, which were made for the first time using Mirum leather – a vegan alternative to animal leather. To develop Mirum, the fashion house collaborated with NFW and even invested in the parent company Natural Fiber Welding to advance this innovative material, aiming to inspire other fashion industry representatives toward responsible production and mindful consumption.

Features of Mirum Leather

Mirum is a unique material known for its exceptional functionality, durability, and aesthetic beauty. It is an elastic, strong, and waterproof option that cleans easily, is entirely recyclable, and is suitable for circular use. Plant-based Mirum is an excellent alternative to natural animal leather.

This innovative material is 100% free from plastic, fossil fuels, and water. Produced in Illinois, Mirum consists of a combination of natural materials and recycled agricultural waste. The use of such ingredients results in an extremely low carbon footprint, much lower than that of regular or synthetic leather. Moreover, Mirum can be recycled and reused, or it can be returned to the environment as nourishment after use. By 2025, the brand plans to completely switch to using recycled materials.

Updated Falabella and Frayme in Mirum

The fashion house reissued its legendary Falabella and Frayme bags using the innovative Mirum material, presenting them at the Fall/Winter 2023 showcase during the Paris Fashion Week.

The Falabella bag features an iconic chain handle made from recycled brass, a body chain made from recycled aluminium, two specially reissued medallions made from zero-waste zamak, an organic cotton lacing, and a lining crafted from recycled polyester.

The brand'sFrayme bag, also made from a vegan alternative to animal leather, comes in various styles such as shoulder bags, totes, crossbodies, and more. Inspired by Stella McCartney's classic design codes, it is complemented by a chain strap and medallion.
